The Bibliographical Society of America (BSA) is the oldest scholarly society in the North American region that is dedicated to the study of books and manuscripts. Bibliography is the study of books as physical, cultural objects. Further, it is the study of the book or manuscript itself rather than what was written inside of them or on them. The Bibliographical Society of America was organized in the year 1904 and was formed into a legal corporation in the year 1927. The main objective was to promote bibliographical research and foster a love for the study of books. They carry out this mission by hosting their public programs, funding scholarly research, issuing publications, and collaborating with similar organizations.
There is a membership to join the society that is open to anyone who has an interest in bibliography including collectors, librarians, professors, and even students.
